| Implementation of apprenticeship models for clinical education is not considered a substantive change per Policy#14 Reporting Substantive Changes. Once a program has obtained institutional and Board of Nursing (if applicable) approval, the ACEN is requesting that programs submit a letter of notification if they are implementing an apprenticeship model.<br>The notification to the ACEN can be in the form of a letter (e.g., on letterhead) and should include following:<br>- Brief rationale for the apprenticeship
- BON and/or legislative support summary
- Date of implementation
- Size (enrollment) of the cohort
- Basic structure of the program/process (brief overview)
- **Faculty maintenance of oversight, accountability, and responsibility for student learning **(this is key)
- Including assurances of:
- Faculty oversight and accountability for the clinical placement (e.g., student and “preceptor” during the experiences)
- Faculty responsibility for final evaluations and grading and determination of whether the student achieved the identified student learning outcomes.
- Documentation that clinical practice will be in alignment with end-of-program SLOs, etc.
- Assurances that students will have a variety of clinical learning experiences.<br>It is essential that the nursing program faculty retain final control and accountability for student learning and ensures that credit/contact hours s are awarded in accordance with institutional and/or program policies (e.g., identified objectives, planned learning activities, and supervision/oversight of learning in the clinical setting).<br>This “non-substantive” change should be submitted here:  [https://acenursing.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/6/group/10/create/214](https://acenursing.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/6/group/10/create/214) |
